Bengaluru likely to get heavy rain for five days

The city and other parts of south interior Karnataka are expected to receive heavy rainfall for the coming five days. The weather department has issued a heavy rainfall warning along with thundershowers, predicting rainfall between 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm in 24 hours.

According to India Meteorological Department (IMD) officials, it began to rain at 11 pm on Sunday and intensified by 2.30 am. Until Monday 8.30 am the city observatory had received 53.1 mm rainfall. For the same duration the observatory at the HAL airport had recorded 9 mm rainfall while the one at Kempegowda International Airport had received 0.8 mm. From 8.30 am to 5.30 pm, the observatories had received almost negligent rainfall.

IMD- Bengaluru- Director- in- charge C P Patil told DH that the rainfall is occurring because of the formation of various systems and under their influence, the city will continue to experience moderate to heavy rainfall for the next four to five days.

There is a cyclonic circulation over south interior Karnataka, extending up to 1.5 kms above mean sea level. There is also a trough from north interior Karnataka to Gulf of Mannar across south interior Karnataka.

Patil added that the local factors like rise in temperature, also played a role for the heavy rainfall. He said that since the south west monsoon is withdrawing while the north east monsoon is setting in heavy rainfall will be a regular feature till October.
