A 32-year-old beat police constable was assaulted for questioning bikers riding triple, that too on a vehicle without registration number.

The trio fled after setting the bike on fire near Lalbagh Road on Tuesday night.

Constable Sadashiva Doddameese of SJ Park police station was assigned to evening patrol till 8.30 pm on Tuesday, May 21.

Around 6.45 pm, near NM Road, three bike-borne men were coming the wrong way. Doddameese stopped them and noticed there was no number plate on the vehicle. He questioned them about riding triple and the missing number plate.

Upon demanding vehicle documents, the trio argued with the constable and started abusing him. Two of them attacked Doddameese with a stone while the other pulled out the petrol pipe of the bike, setting it on fire.

They pushed him aside and fled. Meantime, a few passersby rushed to Doddameese’s help and managed to douse the fire.

Police have taken up a case against the trio. The cops further identified the owner of the bike and found that he was not involved.

The trio are natives of Tamil Nadu and efforts are on to nab them.
