Deputy CM's pillar inspection halts peak-hour traffic

Peak-hour traffic in MG Road came to a standstill on Saturday morning as Deputy Chief Minister G Parameshwara inspected the damaged metro pillar near the Trinity Station.

Parameshwara visited the spot and inspected the pillar along with the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) officials, accompanied by police officials.

The traffic from Trinity Circle to MG Road was halted for an hour from 10 am by the traffic police causing huge traffic snarls. Though, Parmeshwara took the metro from Vidhana Soudha station to the Trinity station, due to his visit, the traffic police had to block the movement of vehicles.

“In the name of inspection, blocking the road and forcing commuters to suffer for long hours is not acceptable. I had to reach the office, but I am late for more than one hour,” Savitha Kumar, a motorist from Halasuru said.

“Why ministers have to conduct an inspection during the peak hours?” questioned Jagadish, a commuter from Indiranagar. “Even pedestrians on the footpath near the station were stopped by the police,” he added.

The traffic police failed to inform the commuters in advance about the blocking of the road for the minister’s visit through their social media platform.

When DH approached Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic), P Harishekaran, he was not available for a comment on the issue.
