Two of seven phases of the general elections in India are now complete.

Both phases are marked by low voter turnout, especially in the Hindi heartland, where the BJP is strongest.

The party has also made some unusual choices with its candidates in Meerut and Ghaziabad, in Uttar Pradesh.
