The city police arrested a 32-year-old pilot from the Jaipur airport on Wednesday in connection with a dowry harassment case.

Yudistira Puniya’s wife Peenu Singh had filed a complaint with the HAL police on September 5, 2018. He had failed to appear before the court on various hearings. Finally, the court issued an arrest warrant against him.

Following the court’s direction, a team headed by sub-inspector Naveen found that Puniya, who is with IndiGo airlines, was at the Jaipur airport. The team went there on Wednesday morning, arrested him and brought him back to the city.

Puniya, a native of Hanuman Nagar in Jaipur, had married Peenu on May 2, 2014. The following year, the couple shifted to Bengaluru and were staying in an apartment in Marathahalli.Peenu was working as a software engineer in a private firm. It was alleged that Puniya and his mother Bimla Puniya had taken money and gold jewellery from Peenu’s parents as dowry. Initially, they took good care of her. But after she gave birth to a baby girl, they started harassing her and demanded more dowry.

In the complaint, Peenu said she decided to live separately and sought action against her husband and mother-in-law.

The police team were waiting at the Jaipur airport from the early hours on Wednesday and around 5 am, he was arrested while getting down from his car.
