Father commits suicide after daughter elopes with a man

A 48-year-old man committed suicide in Nandini Layout after his daughter eloped with a married man. The girl’s mother filed a case against her for abetment of suicide.

The incident took place on Tuesday but came to light on Friday. Deceased K Ramu, a resident of Sanjay Gandhi Nagar in Nandini Layout, committed suicide two days after his daughter Vedavalli (21) eloped with one Uday.

Rehana, Ramu’s wife, filed a complaint against her daughter and Uday. Police registered an FIR and a search is on.

Ramu, a mason by trade, had three daughters. Vedavalli is the second daughter. She was working at an NGO. She fell in love with her neighbour Uday, who was already married, with children. Ramu learnt about the love affair and told his daughter to end the affair. He also warned Uday to stay away from his daughter. But the duo told Ramu that there was no question of separation.

Ramu threatened that if both got married, he will commit suicide. The duo, in turn, told him that even if that was the case, they would go ahead.

On April 27, Vedavalli eloped with Uday. Uday’s family members came to Ramu’s house and had heated arguments. Depressed Ramu went to the washroom on April 30 and hanged himself around 4 pm.

In her complaint, Rehana has demanded action against her daughter Vedavalli and Uday.
