A stenographer working at the office of the deputy commissioner of police, west division, was chased down and beaten up by a woman police constable at the KSRTC bus stand at Majestic on Monday night.

The victim, Gangadhar, filed a complaint before the Upparpet police station against Savithramma, a constable at the southeast division.

Gangadhar stated in his complaint that he took a bus to go to his native place Pavagada from the KSRTC bus terminal around 9.15 pm. Savithramma, who was also on the same bus, confronted him and began to hurl abuses and caused embarrassment in front of other passengers.

Unable to bear the humiliation, he got down from the bus and boarded another bus, but she followed him and held his collar and dragged him to the platform and slapped and punched him, he stated.

He tried to free himself but Savithramma allegedly knocked him down and tried to strangle him in front of hundreds of passengers. A few people then came to his rescue. He immediately alerted the Upparpet police but by the time they arrived at the spot, Savithramma managed to escape.

Preliminary investigation revealed that both were working at the south division and used to quarrel frequently over trivial issues.

They used to complain against each other to their superiors. To avoid embarrassment, Gangadhar was transferred to the west division a few months ago.

The Upparpet police have now charged Savithramma for assault, criminal intimidation and summoned her for questioning.
