The KR Puram police arrested a 48-year-old Gambian national with a bagful of photocopied Indian currency notes on Tuesday.

Jadama Alagie was found with 11 bundles of photocopied notes of Rs 1,000 denomination.

After receiving information that an African man was stopping cars and trying to talk to them near the Café Coffee Day outlet in Battarahalli, the police went to the spot and found his movement to be suspicious.

During the enquiry, they found out that he has a bag containing photocopies of Rs 1,000 currency notes. He was arrested and taken to the police station.

The suspect reportedly told the police that he tried to con people by telling them that he had black money and would give Rs 3 lakh in exchange for Rs 1 lakh.

He had arrived in India in April 2015 on a six-month visa. But he overstayed and was living in Hyderabad. He claims to run a garment business.  Further investigation is being carried out, the police said.
