Income Tax raid on Congress leader

The Income Tax officials have raided the premises belonging to Congress leader and realtor P Ramesh, who is said to be close follower of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.

Sources in the department said that the searches were conducted at an apartment belonging to Ramesh in Ulsoor and an office space at Jogupalya in Ulsoor in the City.

Ramesh had contested the 2013 Assembly elections from C V Raman Nagar constituency in the City on the Congress ticket and lost to the BJP’s S Raghu.

The affidavit on assets and liabilities submitted by Ramesh to the Election Commission during the 2013 Assembly elections stated that he has assets worth Rs 67.87 crore and liabilities totalling to Rs 17 crore.

Sources in the I-T Department said that the raids commenced on December 11 and continued till Tuesday. A senior I-T official said that the verification of the documents was still in progress.

“The searches and assessment are still going on and hence no details can be shared,” the official said.

Speaking to the media on Tuesday, Ramesh said the I-T officials had searched his premises. However, he did not divulge any details.
