KSCA initiates waste management at T20 match

The Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) initiated an effective waste management programme during the T20 match on Wednesday.

A record crowd in a jam-packed stadium of about 32,000 spectators watched the match. The waste management programme was undertaken by the KSCA and various vendors at the stadium.

There were no disposable plastic plates or cutlery used in the stadium. Instead, fruits were served in arecanut plates and food in compostable plates made of biodegradable corn starch. Also, plastic flags and promotional elements were not used much or found in the waste at all, the organisers claimed. “All the waste generated at the event was sent to a KSPCB-approved biogas plant for bio-methanation. All the dry waste was segregated into multiple categories and sent to recyclers,” said an organiser.
