Man held for murder of wife

The city police arrested a 33-year-old man for killing his wife as she was against his extramarital affair. The accused dressed up the murder as suicide in Doddathoguru near Electronics City on Saturday.

Ramesh Babu was remanded in judicial custody for the murder of his wife, Priyanka.

Police said Ramesh worked at a private firm in Electronics City. Seven years ago, Ramesh, a native of Chittoor married Priyanka, a distant relative of his. They have a four-year-old daughter, who stays with the grandparents in Chittoor. Priyanka was working at a garment factory in Doddathoguru, where the couple were staying.

Six months ago, he came in contact with a woman. As Priyanka found out about the liaison, she met the other woman and convinced her to maintain distance from her husband. But the pair continued their relationship.

After Ramesh came home drunk on Saturday around 6.30 pm, a quarrel ensued between the couple. In a fit of rage, Ramesh punched Priyanka. As she fell down, Ramesh then smothered her to death.

After learning that Priyanka was dead, Ramesh tied a piece of cloth to the ceiling fan. Thereafter, he came out of the house shouting that Priyanka had committed suicide. Locals noticed Priyanka bleeding from the nose and alerted the police.
