The Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court remanded Abhishek Chethan who was arrested for gouging out his father’s eye, to three days’ police custody.

Chethan had hit his father S S Parameshwar’s eye with a key during an argument over property at their house in Shakambarinagar in JP Nagar. Parameshwara is a retired government official.

The police submitted before the magistrate that Chethan (38) in his statement had said that he had asked his father to register the house in his name and to give him some money.

However, his father did not oblige. Chethan and his father had then filed cases against each other. When Chethan asked his father to withdraw the case against him, he refused and was firm that he would not register the property in Chethan’s name. In a fit of rage, Chethan gouged out his father’s eye. The police said Parameshwar had already given a share of the assets to his daughter Chaitra living nearby, his other son Chandan in Mysuru and to Chethan in the same building. He had only retained the house for his wife and himself. But after his wife died, Chetan kept harassing his father for money and to transfer the building in his name.

The house was jointly registered in the name of Parameshwar and his wife. Police said Chethan had forcibly taken his mother’s signature on the property document when she was alive. The police took Parameshwar’s statement on Wednesday, where he sought strict action against his son.
