A 31-year-old manager has been arrested for assaulting and foul-mouthing a police sub-inspector and a constable attached to the Halasuru Gate traffic police station in Ashok Nagar in the wee hours of September 22.

Police identified the arrested man as Ashish Dutt, a resident of Koramangala working as a project manager with a reputed NGO.

PSI Kumaraswamy and constable Vijay Kumar, who was the driver of the police jeep, were on patrolling duty on the intervening night of September 21 and 22nd.

At around 1.45 am, they found Dutt screaming and shouting at a woman walking before him on Residency Road near Richmond Circle.

They pulled up next to Dutt and, believing that he knew the woman, Kumaraswamy asked him to talk mildly as it was the wee hours and he was in a public place.

Dutt, in an inebriated condition, called the PSI stupid and asked him to mind his business.

When the PSI said he was on patrol duty and was minding his business, Dutt abused him further. The manager assaulted Vijay Kumar who came to the officer’s rescue. Dutt even plucked the wireless system installed in the patrol jeep and threw it away while Vijay Kumar was alerting the police control room.

Meanwhile, another Hoysala patrolling jeep arrived with reinforcement and took Dutt to Ashoknagar police station, where he was booked under IPC section 353 - assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty and 332 - voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty.

Ashish was produced before a magistrate and remanded to judicial custody the following morning. He is said to have obtained a bail and is out of jail, a senior police officer said.

Meanwhile, a car driver abused and roughed up a traffic head constable attached to HSR Layout traffic police station when the cop directed his car to take a long turn to the right at the Bellandur Lake Kodi junction on September 19. Constable Sydappa M Talavara was on duty at the Kodi Junction managing traffic when he saw a Maruti Swift Dzire blocking traffic while waiting to make a turn.

The constable directed the driver to take a long turn towards the right side and move away. This irked the driver who pulled up his car to the centre of the junction blocking traffic. He then yelled at Talavara asking him if he knew who he was talking to and said that he was Bellanduru Prasanna.

The constable demanded that he take the car, but Prasanna turned more aggressive and roughed up Talavara, who informed his seniors.

Bellanduru police arrived at the spot and bundled Prasanna to the police station, where he was booked under IPC section 353 - assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty and 504 and 506 - criminal intimidation.
