Bengaluru Wholesale Food Grains and Pulses Merchants’ Association on Saturday claimed that its initiative to sell tur dal at Rs 130 a kg has received good response.

More than 4,000 kg of tur dal were sold by the association directly to people at its three centres in Bengaluru in the past two days. Merchants affiliated to the FKCCI have taken up the initiative in Mysuru, Tumakuru, Mandya, Hubballi, Kalaburagi and Bidar districts, association president Ramesh Chandra Lahoti said.

“Consumers are happy with the quality of dal. We are ready to open more centres in the city if the government provides us space. The initiative has exposed multi-brand retail shops, whose prices are exorbitant,” he added.

He said the government has been requested to take up distribution of dal at Rs 130 a kg across the state. “Wholesale traders are ready to supply dal at this rate to the government. We are even ready to waive transportation cost while supplying dal,” he added.
