The Karnataka Municipal Corporation (KMC) Act permits the Palike to revise property taxes every three years.
But a section of the ruling party as well as the opposition parties were opposed to this proposal. A vehement protest ensued following reports in some newspapers, quoting unnamed sources, that Palike intended to hike the property taxes for the next financial year.
An uproarious scene was witnessed in the Palike Council over this issue in the past. The situation was brought under control in the House only after mayor S K Nataraj declared that the property tax would not be increased in the next fiscal.
