Padmanabha Reddy sees scam in Indira Canteens

Last Updated 26 July 2018, 20:01 IST

Padmanabha Reddy, the Leader of Opposition in the BBMP Council, alleged that the civic body was involved in a huge scam in the Indira Canteen project.

Addressing a press meet on Thursday he said: “The contractors are claiming bills stating the same number of breakfast, lunch and dinner every day. How is it possible that the same number of people come for meals every day? This is a huge scam where the officials are claiming more payment than the actual cost.”

He also alleged that on January 25th, when there was a statewide bundh, the contractors of Indira Canteens have been paid Rs 63,22,400, while the canteens across the city were shut down.

He claimed that every day the officials were claiming at least Rs 40 crore fake bills.

Responding to the allegation, M Shivaraju, ruling party leader, BBMP, said the contractors of the canteen were not directed to shut the canteens on January 25.

“In January, a total of Rs 6,66,56,388 bills were paid for the entire month and it will not be possible to collect Rs 63,22,400 in one day. These are false claims,” said a press release from his office.
