Alert customs officials of the Kempegowda International Airport intercepted a passenger and seized 816 gm of gold worth Rs 25.15 lakh from his underwear on Thursday.

Shamsuddin, a resident of Bengaluru, arrived by an Air Arabia flight GF 280 from Bahrain on Thursday. Customs officials spotted him walking with an unusual gait while he was going through the green channel through which passengers pass through who have no duty payable goods with them. The officials soon profiled him and picked him up for a detailed inspection. That is when they discovered the gold biscuits concealed inside two specially tailored inner cavities of his underwear.

Officials have seized a total of seven gold biscuits weighing 116.64 gm each, wrapped in an insulating tape.

Shamsuddin was arrested, produced before a magistrate and remanded in judicial custody.
