An undertrial attempted to commit suicide by slitting his wrist with a blade on the premises of the Magistrate Court complex on Tuesday while being brought for a hearing.

According to the police, he attempted to commit suicide around noon when the Hennur police were escorting him to the court hall CCH-54. The accused might have procured the piece of the blade from the ground while walking, the police suspect.

The police stopped him from doing any further harm and took away the blade. The cut on his wrist was just superficial and not deep, the police added. He was rushed to the court’s first aid counter. After attending the hearing he was taken to Parappana Agrahara where he is in judicial custody.

The police have apprised the jail authorities as well about the incident and they have been instructed to keep a strong vigil on him.

Accused in a Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) case, Vinod Kumar (27), was booked in 2017 by the Hennur police for sexually abusing a minor.
