Expressing solidarity with the people protesting against Vedanta’s Sterlite unit in Tamil Nadu, around 200 people from various organisations staged a protest in front of their office at the Prestige Meridian Towers on MG Road.

Members from the Environment Support Group, People’s Union for Civil Liberties, People’s Democratic Forum, Karnataka Tamil Makkal Aikiyam, Communist Party of India (Marxist–Leninist) Liberation and a few members from the ALF were present at the protest on Thursday evening. The protesters demanded that the police summon a few officials from the Vedanta office. To this, the police said that the office, located on the seventh floor, was not functioning.

“The incident at Thoothukudi was a Tamil Nadu government-sponsored organised crime. Where is the human rights commission there?" said T Narasimhamurthy, an activist.

“Vedanta has been repeatedly engaging in such work, putting profit over the people. It has the backing of the two mainstream parties," another activist claimed.
