Rs 18 lakh in foreign currency seized at KIA

Authorities at the Kempegowda International Airport seized foreign currency equivalent to Rs 18.36 lakh from two Malaysia-bound passengers.

The two passengers were travelling to Kuala Lumpur, and were profiled following security checks at the airport.

According to a release: “The two passengers, hailing from Tamil Nadu, claimed to be travelling to Malaysia for the purpose of buying commodities. Due to their suspicious behaviour, the passengers and their baggage were examined. It was revealed that the passengers had concealed the foreign currency in their handbags and footwear.”

The foreign currency seized included US dollars, Euros, Swiss Francs, Canadian Dollars and Japanese Yen. The duo have been booked under various sections of the Customs Act and foreign exchange regulations. Further investigation is in progress, the release said.
