Sandalwood tree stolen from apartment complex

Last Updated 22 November 2018, 20:10 IST

A four-men gang barged into Embassy Apartment compound and made away with a sandalwood tree after threatening the security guard on Ali Askar Road behind the National Military Memorial, in the wee hours of Wednesday.

The apartment is a stone throw away from the city police commissioner’s office.

According to the police, at around 3.55 am, four men covering their face with monkey caps jumped the compound wall and threatened Robul Boruah (21), the security guard with machetes and wooden logs. While two of them were handling the guard, two others fell the huge sandalwood tree with a chainsaw and cut them into smaller logs. In about five to 10 minutes they loaded the logs into a vehicle they had parked outside and fled.

The guard then alerted the apartment residents who informed the police.

The Vidhana Soudha police have taken up a case under sections of the Karnataka Forest Act and theft under IPC and are investigating further. They are yet to identify and nab the culprits.
