A storeroom located on the first floor of the Jnanabharathi police station gutted in a fire on Thursday evening.

A few policemen at around 4.50 pm noticed the fire and billowing smoke from outside the building and informed the fire and emergency services.

One fire tender rushed to the spot and doused the blaze.

According to the police, initially the cause of the fire was suspected to be a short circuit, but when the firemen visited the spot, they could not see any electrical connections or portals inside the room which could have caused the fire.

The 20x30 storeroom had old records and old police uniforms along with materials that were shifted from the old police station when the new police station was built, the police said.

All the items stored in the room were gutted, fortunately, there were no casualties.

However, the SHO and the senior police officers of the station maintained that it was a small incident and there was not much of a considerable damage.
