A four-member gang abducted and robbed a 30-year-old software engineer of his valuables on Hosur road on the pretext of offering him a drop home recently.

The victim Karthik R, an IT firm staffer from G S Palya, had planned a visit to his native Hosur on the weekend, said the police.

He was waiting at the Electronics City bus stop around 9.30 pm when a cab driver offered to drop him at the nominal fare. The techie got into the cab which already had three men inside.

Minutes after the cab moved, those inside the cab directed him to hand over valuables. They assaulted him with an iron rod when he refused to yield to the demand. The suspects threatened to shoot him if he raised alarm, said the police.

They collected his gold chain, two rings, mobile phone and wallet. They drove towards an ATM kiosk on Baleganahalli, off Hosur road, and made him withdraw Rs 15,000. They returned his phone, threatened of dire consequences if he approached the police, dumped him near Attibele and sped away, added the police.

On being contacted, his friends reached there and took him to Parappana Agarahar police station where he lodged a complaint.

The police have registered a case of kidnap for ransom and robbery with attempt to cause grievous injuries.

They are also analysing the CCTV footage to identify the car and the gang.
