A techie has sought police action against his wife and in-laws for reportedly harassing him for money, besides threatening to send him to jail in a dowry harassment case.

Dheeraj Reddy Chintal, a resident of Doddanekkundi and a staffer with a private software firm, in the complaint against his wife Jaya Shruthi and five others, said they demanded Rs 2 crore from him.

Chintal got married to Jaya in 2014. In 2017, she forced him to buy diamond jewellery worth Rs 30 lakh. She threatened to commit suicide if he failed to do so, according to the police.

Chintal claimed that she would smoke and consume alcohol. Her parents supported her when he complained to them about her habits.

On Jaya’s request, three of her friends followed him to keep a track of his activities and whereabouts, Chintal claimed, and added that she demanded Rs 2 crore when he questioned her about this.

Jaya also threatened to lodge a dowry harassment complaint against him.

A senior officer said the couple had a misunderstanding over family matters, and notices were issued to six members of the family to appear before the investigating officer. Further investigation will be conducted after recording their statements, the officer said.
