In another feather in the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike’s cap, its TenderSURE project has been featured in the Global Street Design Guide by C40 Cities.

Speaking to DH, BBMP commissioner N Manjunath Prasad said, “Bengaluru is the only Indian city covered in the Global Street Design Guide along with many world cities.”

The case study published by C40 cities along with Novo Nordisk of Bengaluru has taken into account the benefits of TenderSure roads like walking and cycling, Prasad added.

The TenderSURE project was launched in 2011 and a year later, the Government of Karnataka allocated the budget to implement 20 pilot roads. These pilots were then built in two phases. The first set of seven roads was opened in 2015 while five more were inaugurated in 2017.

The TenderSURE project had received the 'Commendable Initiative Award' for the best non-motorised transport (NMT) project from the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, at the 11th Urban Mobility India conference in Mumbai on November 4.

The Palike recently revealed plans to develop another 18 roads under the Smart City project. “Earlier, the TenderSURE road upgrades were under the Nagarathana grants. But now we have planned to take up this project under the Smart City programme,” said a BBMP Official.
