Addressing the demand for an unbiased system to assign work, the lack of which was cited as one of the reasons for the workers' strike in December, the BMTC has introduced a duty rota system.
The new system, to come into effect from March 15, takes into consideration the seniority of the drivers and conductors as per the list given by the depot manager before assigning the duty, including the routes.
As per the circular issued by the BMTC, women will be given preference while assigning work in the first shift.
The seniority list should be displayed on the notice board of the respective depot at least three days before holding a counseling session for the employees. The move is aimed at bringing transparency and leaving no space for allegations of bias.
The duty rota system has sought to address the issues surrounding marking of attendance, leave and other allowances.
The transport corporation said that the new system shall be implemented after taking into confidence all the employees.
The BMTC has retained two key elements in the performance review. The assignment of drivers and conductors will be decided based on the fare collection and the fuel efficiency, among other criteria.
