A CBI special court convicted a former chief manager of Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL), Manda Varaprasad Rao, of corruption.
C Venkateshwarulu, manager of Radiant Cables Pvt Ltd, had approached Rao in 2004 for stopping invocation of bank guarantees furnished to HAL by Radiant. He had requested this in lieu of electrical cables taken back due to a snag. Rao demanded Rs 50,000. The CBI arrested Rao while accepting the bribe.
