Won’t allow screening of 2.0: Vatal Nagaraj

Kannada Chaluvali Paksha chief Vatal Nagaraj on Wednesday vowed to protest over the release of the multi-lingual Superstar Rajinikanth starrer 2.0 in Bengaluru. Nagaraj will stage a dharna in front of Urvashi theatre against giving maximum screen space and more prominence to movies in other languages in Karnataka.

“There’s threat to Kannada films in recent times,” Nagaraj told DH. “Most single-screen theatres committed to playing Kannada movies have been shut. The remaining single-screen theatres and multiplexes are giving greater preference to other language films and are sidelining Kannada movies.”

“Theatres screening Kannada movies in other states are a few. Our opposition is towards this injustice.” Voicing opposition to other language films getting released in Karnataka, Nagaraj demanded a law to stop the practice.

“The law should allow other language films to be released in Karnataka a month after its release in their respective hometowns. If not, there won’t be space for Kannada movies, even in Gandhinagar.”
