Hiriyanna, a scholar in Karnataka folklore, has been teaching at Kuvempu Institute of Kannada Studies for the last three decades. He has published 42 works on Karnataka folklore and over 125 research papers and 18 students have got PhD degree under his guidance.
After the State legislature passes the Bill for setting up the university, Hiriyanna will assume office as its vice- chancellor. The Government has not yet decided the location.
