The 42-year-old star shot parts of the movie, based on the memoirs of Elizabeth Gilbert in an ashram and Pataudi Palace in Gurgaon in September last year.
"It's amazing how much Indian food you can eat in five weeks. I'm pretty picky and I really like Indian food. Just every once in a while, you run into something that is so amazingly spicy that you're just sweating all through dinner," Roberts told People magazine.
The actress, who recently revealed that she is a practicing Hindu, also wore a saree for a scene in the movie.
The film, also starring James Franco and Oscar-winner Javier Bradem, releases in India next week.
