Minor boy held for making extortion calls

The boy was nabbed following investigations into a complaint by Sumit Gupta, a resident of Sector-14 Rohini, that he and his wife got threatening calls on their mobile phones on September 16, 19, 21, 30 and October one from two mobile numbers.

The caller demanded Rs 15 lakh and threatened to kill the couple if they did not pay him, police said today.One mobile phone was traced to a telephone booth in Swaroop Nagar and the other was found to be issued to one Rohtash.

The booth owner Ram Kumar was contacted but he failed to describe the features of the caller as the calls were made 15-20 days back.

Simultaneously, Rohtash was contacted who stated that his wife Meena had on September 23 gone to meet her brother in Rohini and she lost her mobile in Punjabi Bagh.

After investigations, police zeroed in on the boy who was apprehended.The accused Rahul (name changed) told the police that he had obtained the mobile numbers of Gupta and his wife Abha from the mobile of his maternal uncle Maan Singh, without his knowledge, who works as their driver."He further stated that he made extortion calls after inspiring from a programme 'Nitin Ka Show' which comes on Radio Mirchi (FM).

"He also said that he was also inspired from the movie 'Wanted' in which Salman Khan had threatened the persons and extorted money from them," a senior police official said.
