Man sentenced to life for murder of Indian couple in 2008

Narayan Thadani, 63, was sentenced before Chief US District Judge Gerald Rosen in Michigan for "murder-for-hire" of Aasha and Brij Chhadbra.

Another co-defendant Douglas Tobar, 42, was also sentenced in the case.
Thadani received a sentence of life in prison, while Tobar will spend 30 years behind bars based on his cooperation in the case, US Attorney Barbara McQuade said in a statement.
Thadani had pleaded guilty in June this year.

Authorities said the Chhadbras were killed on March 11, 2008, in their home over a lawsuit that would have revealed embezzlement.

Investigators further said that Thadani had embezzled almost USD two million from Aasha Chhadbra, and was embroiled in a lawsuit with the couple over the missing money.

According to the information presented to the court at the time of the guilty plea, Thadani and Tabor had arranged for Miguel Servando and Nelson Mendoza to travel from Texas to Michigan to murder the Chhadbras.

Servando and Mendoza were arrested by the Taylor Police Department later.
A search of their vehicle revealed a diagram and address of a home in Troy, Michigan, and a copy of a passport picture of a woman.

When the Troy Police Department went to the Chhadbra's residence for a "welfare check," they found the couple had been killed.
Servando and Mendoza were charged with first degree murder by the Oakland County Prosecutor's office.
Servando pleaded guilty to state and federal charges and is currently serving a life sentence in federal prison.
Mendoza was found guilty after a trial on state charges. He is currently serving a life sentence in state custody.
