Unveiling a cultural feast

Dr Mylswamy Annadurai, the Project Director of Chandrayana, ISRO, who delivered the keynote address, said that about 1.5 lakh patients were getting telemedicine facility every year. “The ISRO’s telemedicine pilot project, which was started in 2001, is aimed at providing medical treatment to the population at the grassroot level. The facility connects remote hospitals with superspeciality hospitals in cities through Insat satellites for providing expert consultation to the needy. The programme is a synergy of satellite communication technology, information technology with biomedical engineering and medical sciences,’’ he said.

He called upon young doctors to imbibe human values and serve society. A C Shanmugam, chairman of Rajarajeshwari Group of Institutions, presided over the function. Sandalwood actress Yagna Shetty graced the occasion and distributed awards to meritorious students. Dean Dr Edwin Devadas, and other faculty members were present on the occasion. The winners of various sports events were also given prizes.

The talents of the students were unveiled at the cultural events to mark the college day celebrations. Called Zest Fest, the entertaining programmes included events like fashion shows, dances, mad-ads and fun-filled games which succeeded in making the day a memorable one.

Fashion shows sporting bridal collections from across the country — Punjabi, Bengali, Malayali, Rajasthani, Marathi, Goan and many others won much applause from the audience. Students walked the ramp in black collections, casual wear and ‘cool moon’ costumes.

Mad ads by Jai Ganesh and the team was liked by everyone as they made fun of themselves, the dentists. Jyothi, a student, performed a ‘Bharatanatyam’ piece
gracefully.

Deepak and group danced to songs from different languages and caught the attention of the audience with their innovative steps.

A humourous skit on Osama Bin Laden involved even the faculty members and succeeded to entertain the gathering for more than 20 minutes with interesting twists and turns. Reshma and group and Sukruthi and team danced to Bollywood fusion songs. The programme concluded late in the evening with many interesting performances.
