Four killed in separate accidents

  Four persons, including two senior citizens, were killed in separate accidents in the City on Saturday.  

A 20-year-old youth was killed on the NICE highway in the evening, after he lost control of his motorcycle and rammed into a tree. Byatarayanapura traffic police have identified the dead as Mahesh, a resident of Muneshwara Block. 

Mahesh, who was taking a joyride on the highway with one of his friends, Kiran Kumar, began to speed and lost control of the vehicle. He was not wearing a helmet and suffered fatal injuries after his head struck against a tree. 

Kumar, who was riding pillion, also sustained injuries and is being treated at a nearby private hospital.  

Student dies A 21-year-old student was killed in an accident at Roopena Agrahara in the evening. The deceased has been identified as Lyju John, from Thrissur, Kerala. Lyju and his friend Rakesh John, also from Thrissur, were studying for a bachelor’s degree in radiology at Hosmat Hospital.  The accident occurred when Rakesh and Lyju were going shopping. At Roopena Agrahara Main Road, Rakesh hit a road  median in a bid to avoid a four wheeler in front of them. Lyju, who was riding pillion, was thrown on to the road. He was run over by a speeding vehicle.  Both riders were rushed to a nearby hospital. Lyju succumbed to his injuries on Saturday night. Rakesh has been declared out of danger. The driver of the four wheeler later told Madiwala traffic police that he had applied brakes as a pedestrian was trying to cross the road. Priest killed  A 73-year-old senior citizen was killed in an accident near the BEL Club on Saturday. The Yeshwantpur traffic police have identified the dead as Satyanarayana Shastry, the chief priest at the Malleswaram Mahaganapathy Temple. The accident occurred when Shastry was returning home after performing pooja at a house in Vidyaranyapura, in his chauffer-driven car. The car was struck on the side by the vehicle of a club member exiting the club. Both Shastry and the club member, Somashekhara, were rushed to the nearby M S Ramaiah Hospital. While Somashekhara has been declared out of danger, Shastry succumbed to injuries early on Sunday morning.  Senior citizen run over

A senior citizen was mowed down by a speeding bike on Siddapura main road on Saturday.  Whitefield traffic police have identified the dead as Neelakanthappa, 63, a resident of Vinayakanagar. He was hit by the bike when he was taking his morning stroll. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was declared brought dead. The biker fled the scene.
