A pall of gloom descends on Chamarajpet

Hundreds of relatives and neighbours gathered outside the houses of the bereaved family, who were sheltered by a frail pendal. The air was thick with the smell of incense and dust, as people lined up to pay their last respects.

Heart rending scenes were witnessed when the bodies were brought to the residence.

Some of the bodies were fully covered as a they were beyond recognition. However, relatives who rushed to the spot had a put name tags to help in identification of the bodies.
Kumar BL, who grew up with Shesha Bhusan’s son, said the locality was too shocked by the tragic event. “I am shell-shocked by the accident,”he said.

However, the State government’s apathy left a bad impression on many people. K V Ramachandran, a relative, remarked that the local police did not extend any help in managing the traffic in this busy area. “We had to struggle hard to make way for the bodies into the locality,” he complained.

Ashwathnarayana, another relative of the victims, said the government should come forward to meet funeral expenses, as the family would find it tough bear the expenses. The funeral will be held on Tuesday morning either at Banashankari or Chamarajpet.
