POT POURRI

Workshop

An experiment in 72 Mela Kartha Raagas will be held at a three-month long musical workshop at Kavyashri Music School, No 52, 1st Cross, Lakkasandra till December. In the workshop, Haridasara Keerthanegalu, Shivasharanara Vachanas, Hindi bhajans, Bhava Geethe and English songs will also be taught. For details, call 9611525942. 

Kannada classes

Kannada Praasara Parishat is conducting spoken Kannada, higher spoken Kannada and Kannada script read-write classes in separate batches.

The classes are held only on Sundays from 10 am to 1 pm at the Hosmat Hospital Premises, Magrath Road, (Near Garuda Mall). For details, call 9448878569.

The Alliance Française de Bangalore will also be conducting Kannada for
beginners from October 25.

Classes will be held at the Alliance Française premises by teachers from the Kannada Praasara Parishat.

The programme will focus on spoken skills with a hands-on approach.

Graphic designs

Goethe-Institut/Max Mueller Bhavan is holding an exhibition of contemporary German Design titled: The Dimension of the Plane — Communication Design in Germany till October 23 at the Bhavan.

This exhibition of the Rat für Formgebung (German Design Council) will offer a snapshot view of graphic design and visual communication in Germany from
the beginning of the 21st century. The timing is 9 am to 6.30 pm.

Classical touch

Annual festival

MANMF is organising the ninth annual music festival till October 23 at the Bangalore Gayana Samaj Hall.

On the occasion, Sukanya Prabhakar, who has served classical music for over 35 years, will be honoured.

On October 21, Sukanya Prabhakar and party will present a vocal recital, on

Memorial concert

Hindustani Sangeeta Kalakara Mandali, in joint participation with Gokhale Institute of Public Affairs, is holding the Sri E R Sethuram Memorial Concert.

A Hindustani vocal recital by Priyal Sathe of Pune will be held on the occasion.

Priyal will be accompanied by Ashwin Walawalkar on harmonium and Rajendra Nakod on tabla.

The event is on October 30, 6 pm and the venue is Gokhale Institute of Public Affairs, near BMS Engineering College, Bull Temple Road, N R Colony.

‘Fotos’

A rock concert by German Indie band Fotos will be held on October 25, 5 pm at Delhi Public School South.

The Hamburg-based band Fotos is representative of the latest German trend in music. On their India tour, Fotos will present their latest album, Porzellan.

Dewars and Olive Beach will present the Monday Night Jazz with Gerard Machado Trio on October 25, 8 pm onwards. Gerard Machado will be on guitar and vocals; Tillu on the drums and Aman Mahajan on the keyboard.

‘Jazz Quartet’

BFlat will present the amazing Mathias Eick Jazz Quartet from Norway on October 22.
Mathias Eick is a very prolific, highly accomplished trumpeter on the contemporary jazz circuit in Europe. The team has apart from Mathias Eick (trumpet), Andreas Ulvo (piano/ keyboards), Audun Erlien (bass) and Rune Arnesen (drums).

‘Soulmate’

BFlat is hosting Soulmate on October 21 at 8.30 pm. The band comprises Rudy Wallang and Tips Khabyangar and is arguably, India’s most popular blues band ever. They will be accompanied by Sam Shullai (drums), Dwight Pattison (bass) and Raveen Pandey (Hammond). This band from Shillong has spread its network all over the country.

Flute duet

Music Circle, Chandra Layout is having a Carnatic flute duet music concert by Vidwan B K Anantharam and Amith Nadig on October 24, 6 pm at No 12, Basaveshwara HBCS, 7th Cross, 2nd Main, Chandra Layout.

ART

Solo show

A solo show of Paresh Hazra will be on view at Galerie De’Arts, 11th Floor, Barton Centre, 84, M G Road from October 22 to November 12, between 11 am and 7 pm.

For a cause

Swasti, the contemporary art gallery, is hosting a charity art show on the occasion of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and raise funds for HCG Foundation.
The art show is being held at Swasti Art Gallery, HCG Tower 1 and 4, 8, P Kalinga Rao Road, Sampangiramnagar. It is on view till October 31 and is open for public between 10 am and 6 pm.

Knorr’s works

Tasveer, in association with Ganjam, will present an exhibition of works of photographer Karen Knorr, called Transmigrations, till November 30 at Sua House, 26/1, Kasturba Cross Road. The timing is 10 am to 7 pm. The exhibition is closed on Sundays.

‘Madras Accent’

Safion will present an exhibition of unique art works created by artists from Madras School of Art in a show titled The Madras Accent: Modern and Contemporary Art exhibition from Madras at the Venkatappa Art Gallery till October 24, 11 am to 7 pm. The show features 22 of the best names who have lived and worked in the City such as S G Vasudev, R B Bhaskaran, Achuthan Kudallur, Douglas C, RM Palaniappan, Thota Tharan, Aparajithan Adimoolam etc.

‘Leo’

Galleryske presents Leo (procedures in search of an original index) by Sreshta Premnath till December 4 at Galleryske, 2 Berlie Street, Langford Town.

‘Germination’

Apparao Gallery is presenting Germination, an exhibition of metal wires, sculptures by artist Puneet Kaushik till October 31 at Apparao Gallery, The Presidency, 82, St Mark’s Road. Puneet Kaushik is a celebrated sculptor and his work celebrates a psychological extraction of the phlegmatic to the metallic.

‘Thoughts on Canvas’

Thoughts on Canvas, an exhibition of abstracts by Amrish Vijay Malvankar, will be on
display at Chitrakala Parishat Gallery (III and IV) till October 24, between 11 am and 6 pm.

DRAMA

‘Yakshagana’

A Yakshagana play called Sri Krishna Sandhana will be staged on October 24, from 3 pm, at Sri Prasanna Veeranjaneya Swamy Temple, Mahalakshmi Layout. This is organised by Yakshagana Tapassangha. For details, call  9844012298.

‘Laxmanakkodu’

Laxmanakkodu, a play will be presented on October 24, 7 pm at Thirumala Vidya Niketan Hall (behind Chowdaiah Memorial Hall).

‘Gundayana’

Kriyative Theatre will present the comedy Gundayana based on the novel Chakradrushti written by Kannada humourist Na.Kasturi. Designed and directed by Joseph, Gundayana is a unique comedy in which the protagonist himself never appears on stage, but is spoken about by 10 different characters.  The ten characters are played by just two actors, Sundar and Laxmi Chandrashekar.

The play will be staged at Ranga Shankara on October 21, 7.30 pm. Tickets can be purchased online through www.indianstage.in.
