Sources in the Deputy Commissioner’s office, told Deccan Herald that the government has considered seriously the misappropriation wherein additional names were included in the file, which was already closed. A file, which contains 60 names of beneficiaries allegedly included violating rules, will be sent to graphologists for analysis. Action will be taken against the responsible officials, sources said.

The government had initiated a process to regularise all encroachments made by landless poor families through verification.

However, the Government Land Protection Task Force Chairman Balasubramaniam had found several names in the beneficiaries in the list, who possess land. The Task Force also had mentioned Shringeri MLA D N Jeevaraj’s involvement in the fraud. Opposition had taken the issue seriously and made it a political weapon to fight against Jeevaraj.

Responding to the issue, Jeevaraj said that such instances were being reported since 1984. However, he said, “now the opposition leaders are targetting me. I will co-operate with the inquiry.”
