Valaya woos audience with fine detailing, muted colours

While other designers on the inaugural day of this five-day business-to-business event chose to showcase a fusion line to impress buyers on Saturday, Valaya stuck to what he is best at—Indian silhouettes in very contemporary and chic designs.

On one hand there were anarkalis with churidars and saris, and on the other, there were tunics paired with leggings—all in the subtle hues of grey, peach and mauve with detailed embroidery.

The line was also an extension of his “Alika” jackets based on a fictional courtesan, who has now moved to a new environment to discover new life.

The last set of the collection saw detailed and embroidered jackets paired with saris, knee-length tunics, tulle gown and asymmetrical tops.

“I don’t like doing things over the top hence the line was very different as in summer, one would like to wear soothing colours.

“I had tried to combine layering with fabulous jewellery through this line,” Valaya said.
