MySpace moves from user profiles to entertainment content

Last Updated 03 May 2018, 04:24 IST

"Previously MySpace was people-focused, now the focus is content," the News Corp-owned site said Wednesday in announcing the changes, which turn it from a social networking site into an entertainment portal."It's a new strategy for us," MySpace chief executive Mike Jones said. "We're now a social entertainment destination."

While elements on the home page will still be tailored to the preferences of individual users, the page will show the number-one TV show, artist, song, comedian, and music video across MySpace, while also incorporating emerging artists that users across the site are discovering.

The move comes as the site's registered users continue to dwindle. It now has 100 million users, compared to Facebook's 500 million users, and its number of visitors were down 18 percent in September compared to a year earlier, according to web tracking firm Comscore.
