Six killed in two accidents

Three persons were killed, two of them on the spot, in a road mishap on Challakere road in Hiriyur.

Manjunath (37), another Manjunath (35) and Veerendra (40), a relative of Bellary Congress leader Divakar Babu are the deceased.

The car in which Veerendra was travelling from Bellary to Bangalore, in an overtaking attempt, hit a bike and later brushed against a private bus coming in the opposite direction before diving into a road-side ditch.

The rider of the bike, Manjunath and Veerendra were killed on the spot while another Manjunath died on the way to the hospital in Chitradurga, police said. The driver of the car, Nallappa Reddy (35) has escaped miraculously, with minor injuries. The four-wheeler has been completely damaged in the accident. DySP Murthy, Circle Inspector of Police Ravi visited the spot. Hiriyur police have registered a case.

On the other hand, three persons were killed and six others sustained grievous injuries in an accident near Sira. The deceased are identified as Hanuman Sutar, (55), Taravan Kumar, (40) and Chand Ram of Hebbal, Bangalore. Durgaram, Ajari, Jagadish, Buraram, Chakal Lal and Anitha are the injured. They were on their way from Bangalore to Rajasthan to attend a wedding, according to police. The driver lost control over the vehicle and rammed into the wall of an overbridge on NH-4 near Sira.  Superintendent of Police Dr P S Harsha visited the spot. A case has been registered.
