Tata Docomo unveils 3G services

In a nation-wide launch function held in Bangalore, the company announced that from midnight of Thursday (4 November) it will start the service and all existing Tata Docomo subscribers on 2G service will be automatically upgraded to 3G service. The state-owned BSNL and MTNL were the first to launch 3G services in the country early this year.

TTSL has 3G licence in nine circles — Karnataka, Kerala, MP-Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, UP (West), Punjab, Haryana and Maharashtra. Subscribers in these circles will be made 3G enabled from Friday. All Tata Docomo subscribers will be able to experience many 3G applications like video call, live TV, internet browsing etc, totally free of cost for one week till mid night of November 11, 2010.

Diwali gift

Briefing reporters, Managing Director Anil Sardana said “this is a Diwali gift to our valued customers. We will announce the price of various packages on 12th, till then we want people to experience free how 3G can make a big difference.”

Refusing to give any indication of pricing, Sardana said it would be affordable and various offerings would be packaged according to the need of the user. He claimed that Tata Docomo’s 3G service will offer much superior speed because it is on HSPA+ network that supports high speed internet access with speed of up to 21.1 mbps under ideal test conditions. “Technically you can call it ‘3.5G+’ service.

Our advantage is that TTSL’s partner NTT Docomo of Japan is a world leader in 3G technology” said Executive President (Mobility Business Division) Deepak Gulati. The network also supports high definition (HD) voice for superior voice experience on calls, Deepak Gulati said.
