Food officer awarded 4 years imprisonment

A release from the office of Lokayukta SP,  Mysore division stated that G K Rajanna the then deputy director of Food and Civil Supplies had demanded ` 10,000 from the owner of auto gas kit agency towards a favour.

K S Raghoththama son of Sarvoththama of Jayalakshmipuram was running Lakshmi Autogas Kit Agency at his home. A case had been registered against him in this regard in 2005.
Rajanna had demanded the afore said amount from the complainant to facilitate continuing with the business without any hurdles.

Threatened

Rajanna had allegedly threatened him of filing yet another case, if he didn’t pay heed to his demand.

Following this    Raghoththama had lodged a complaint with Lokayukta. Acting on his complaint, Lokayukta personnel had caught Rajanna red-handed while receiving the bribe amount at a hotel on August 23, 2006.

Guilty

The court held the officer guilty under two Acts awarding one year simple imprisonment and imposing fine of `  5,000 under section 7 PC and three years simple imprisonment and fine of Rs 10,000 under section 13 (1) (D), 13 (2) PC Act 1988.

The court also ordered to undergo additional imprisonments of three months and six months if he failed to pay the fine amount respectively.

Vrushabhendra was the public prosecutor in the case, the release added.
