This machine will print out the exact amount to be paid for the respective violations. The sources feel, this will eliminate corruption and also help in generating more revenue for the department.

At present, the traffic police issue challans for those violating traffic rules and they will have to pay the fine on spot or in a court in a specified time frame.

"People will get to know the exact amount they have to pay with the receipt and hence this shall avoid possibilities of them shelling out more penalty.

The cops are accountable as the machine gives information of the number of receipts issued. This system enables people to pay fine on the spot," said Mangalore Circle Traffic Inspector Manjunath Shetty.

Speaking about the need for modern Traffic Management system, Mangalore Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh told Deccan Herald that the system is technically oriented, which includes software and hardware technologies.

"It is not only aimed at bringing transparency in the working of the police but also to make the work of the personnel easier" Singh said.

Police Commissioner said that the Commissionerate is also thinking on the lines of providing better working conditions for traffic cops.

Assistance Booths

"Duty of traffic cops is not an easy job. It takes toll on their health. It is necessary that the cops take care of themselves before saving others. Hence goggles, rain resistant reflective jackets and masks will be provided to the cops soon. Installation of Assistance Booths at various city junctures is another proposed plan which will give the police an exclusive place to sit, making it easy for the public to approach the cop," says Singh adding that all the proposed initiatives may be materialised by March, 2011.

Singh also said that they have placed order for more breath analyzers and Radar Guns too.

With these many modernisation plans, Mangalore traffic policing is surely going to get a make over.
