'Monsoon' wedding in Gulbarga

However, there was a twist: the legs of this bridal couple were tied in order to prevent them from escaping.

For, the couple in question belonged to the frog species!

This was an attempt by the Kannada Sainya Sanghatane, Gulbarga, to invoke the rain Gods.

The wedding was organised at the Goa Hotel Circle, S B Temple Road, and witnessed by hundreds of curious people.

Earlier, as per tradition, Poornakumbha Pooja, Varapooja, and Gouripooja ceremonies were performed. After they tied the knot, the newly-weds were taken in a procession, and let into the recently beautified Sharanabasaveshwara Lake for their honeymoon!

Kannada Sainya Sanghatane’s State President Somnath Kattimani said that the ritual had been performed for the welfare of the mankind, as the belief is that the rain gods would be pleased if the marriage of frogs is carried out.
