After spending 171 days of his 18-month sentence for molestation in jail, Rathore headed straight for his home in Sector 6 Panchkula where a few dozens of his supporters who had gathered raised “Rathore zindabad” slogans on his arrival.

Clad in white shirt, the cop, who was convicted for molesting teenager Ruchika Girhotra, appeared to have no remorse. He was granted bail by the apex court on Thursday morning but his release from the jail was delayed due to official formalities. Rathore’s wife and counsel Abha Rathore submitted a bail bond of Rs 1,00,000 in the court of the chief judicial magistrate here.

Rathore was sharing barrack number 10 of Burail Jail, with Baba Pritpal Singh, who was accused of forgery and cheating. A jail official said Rathore used to work in the jail library daily for five hours and had earned Rs 4,900 before being let out on bail.

Earlier, Rathore had twice applied for parole, saying that he had to look after his agricultural land in Panchkula district. But his applications were declined by the authorities concerned.
