Speaking after inaugurating the 57th All India Co-operative week celebrations here on Monday, he said those working in the co-operative sector must strive to implement development works through the sector. Winning confidence of the people is a major challenge before this sector. Many co-operative institutions have been closed down as they failed to win the people’s confidence coupled with inefficiency among the employees. There is a need for maintaining a total transparency in business as it was customer’s money.

People would patronise co-operative banks if they work to their expectations. Balakrishna said the co-operative institutions in Mysore and Mandya were doing well and the Hassan district have to take those two districts as models. In Hassan district, of the total 169 co-operative institutions, 30 are really functioning well. Taluk level workshop would be organised for the benefit of employees regarding various rules, regulations and latest developments in the banking sector.
