Bangalore student bags national award

Rashmi was chosen from Karnataka to receive the National Child Award for Exceptional Achievement for the year 2010 from President of India Pratibha Patil on November 14.  

“This was very special for me and it took a really a long time to sink in,” exclaims Rashmi.
A student of Gear Innovative International School in Bangalore, Rashmi made most of the opportunity to meet other children and exchange stories. “It was such a diverse crowd and they had excelled in various fields like sports, painting and taekwondo.” she said. Rashmi herself is accomplished in academics as well as music and even manages to play sports well enough to be on her school basketball team.

She has won the gold medal as country topper in Assessment of Scholastic Skills through Educational Testing (ASSET) for winter 2009, and has been placed in the Country’s Top Ten Ranks for the previous three consecutive years.

She has also been awarded ‘Promising Science Talent Award’ by Nobel Laureate Dr Eric Cornell and was honoured with Karnataka State Children’s “Kalashree” Award 2009, conferred by the Governor in recognition of her talent in performing arts - Bharatanatyam.
The 15-year-old student is also pursuing Carnatic music and nurses a dream of starting a dance school of her own some day.

Rashmi is determined to get into the Civil Services. Not one to miss an opportunity, Rashmi interacted with officers during her trip to Delhi, where they shared their experiences with her.
