Aliens to descend in Udupi

Aliens were on earth for about half an hour in an artificially crafted space explosion festooned in a starry world. The alien show created supernatural vista making the spectators tightly gripped to their chairs.

E-Skool organisation was instrumental in generating a dazzling show of aliens at Olakadu Government Composite High School exclusively.

Each show would be of 20 minutes duration and it would be held from 9.30 am to 4.30 pm Twenty four students in two groups would be participating in these shows. The participating students would have to act as aliens from a different solar system.

Speaking to City Herald, one of the alien Sandesh said “I am excited about the whole show. It’s a wonderful experience. Amazing ideas get into our mind after getting dressed as Aliens. It is truly a memorable event.” he added.

E-Skool Director Poornima Kamath said science teaching in India lack innovative models. It is purely theory based without little scope for practical experience.

“I would like to introduce some supernatural models to produce innovative thinking power in the minds of little kids. I want students to get in touch with lasers through Aliens Show,” she added.

The costume costs more than Rs 1.5 lakh. Besides this 16 kilo batteries is being brought by Poornima from US.

Alien Athul said “we ourselves finalised the story following the directions of the organisers. We have seen lots of movies based on aliens and this is how we could weave the entire story,” he added.

Brain Quest is the brainchild of Poornima Kamath who comes every year to Udupi all the way from US to introduce some stunning innovative research models to the children of Udupi. She makes school children to work on science models and supports them by giving space to exhibit their models.  

Brain Quest is an open forum for high school students to display their intellectual calibre.
Various competitions are held on the occasion. Science Quest, I-Quest, Perfume-Quest and Research Quest are the competitions held for the children.

Under science quest, science models developed by high school students  from Udupi district will be displayed. Puzzles and strategy games will be part of I-quest. Students should manufacture perfumes in perfume quest category.

Conducting experiments to exhibit properties of gases will be part of research quest. More than 200 science and engineering related displays and 40 science models will be displayed.

The concept of animation would be taught through Praxinoscope. A model of seismograph to measure earthquakes would be another attraction. “The aim is to create awareness about science and technology through entertainment,” she said.

Poornima said she intends to set up a museum ‘CurioCity’ in Udupi shortly. The museum will be decked with science and techno models, she said.
