Two held for burglary


Shivalingegowda (24) of Malavalli and Mohammed Ali (24) have been arrested, and all the money and valuables amounting to Rs 18.52 lakh has been recovered.

Shivalingegowda was working as a housekeeper in the Murthy household, while Mohammed Ali, a native of Shimoga was working as an electrician in iGate company’s guest house. Ali is said to have been responsible for planning and executing the theft.

Police have recovered gold and diamond jewellery worth Rs 17 lakh and cash amounting to Rs 1.52 lakh.

Police Commissioner Shankar Bidari said that the Phaneesh Murthy, a resident of Shobha Lotus in Whitefield had left for the US on June 21, and his wife left for her parents’ house in Malleswaram at the same time.

The two burglars had cut a window pane in the bathroom, and entered the house and even switched on the TV in the night to give the impression of the residents being at home. After the burglary, they broke the grills of a window in front of the house to mislead the police.

However, when the police, on receiving the complaint of burglary, inspected the spot, suspected the involvement of an insider as only one wardrobe had been opened and the rest of the house was not disturbed.

On interrogation, Shivanlingegowda confessed to committing the crime along with Mohammed Ali. Police said that the two had committed the crime as they were in need of money.
