Teacher fired for molesting student

Sources in the school and mass education department said the government decided to fire the teacher following a detailed investigation.

The Class X student of Deogarh Government Girls’ High School along with a few of her classmates was going for  morning prayers when the teacher, Gobardhan Pradhan, allegedly hugged the girl from behind and forcibly gave a peck.  The terribly upset student informed her parents about the incident. The girl and her parents then decided to lodge a complaint against the teacher with the school authorities and the education department.
Incidentally, the department had recently launched a toll free “helpline” number for students and their parents across the state. The number came handy and the girl’s parents lodged a complaint.

The department immediately asked its officials based in Deogarh district to form a three-member committee comprising a woman teacher to probe the incident and submit a report.
